Challenge: BE CONSCIENCE…
30/1000 for 1 LIFE
The UNESCO Project-“ Duty of Memory-Young People for Human Rights”  of the schools of Carregal do Sal launched a challenge to artists to create art pieces inspired by the Act of Conscience of Aristides de Sousa Mendes in June 1940 at the beginning of the Second World War.
The challenge issued by artists Josefa Reis and Victor Costa is a tribute to this “Righteous Gentile ” and aims to mark the 80th anniversary of his Act of Conscience, as he granted entry visas to Portugal to refugees who were thus able to escape the coming Nazi holocaust, and to make their way to freedom.
The program was initially designed to fill  an entire weekend in June around Casa do Passal, in Cabanas de Viriato, Portugal  including workshops, exhibitions, live music and other artistic-cultural interventions, to mark the three days and nights of the “fury” of passing visas and recalling this humanist's taste for art, one of the Universal Values.

The initiative now makes its appearance redesigned as a virtual online exhibition  , adapted to the COVID19 context of prolonged social isolation.

The challenge “SER Consciência… 30/1000 por 1 VIDA” aims to stimulate creativity and promote diverse artistic expressions, where participants can create, in the various artistic areas (painting, drawing, sculpture, writing, photography or other), his contributions so that the memory does not fade, and to reinforce the values that Aristides de Sousa Mendes defended.
Artists are invited to honor Aristides de Sousa Mendes,  a “Righteous Gentile” born in Cabanas de Viriato, Carregal do Sal, who did so much in favor of the essential values of HUMANITY.
Participation is free, within all artistic areas, which will then be organized into categories and thus shared, with creativity, innovation and originality being valued, which does not prevent the sharing of existing works.

The works created in response to this challenge must be accompanied by a brief description, with the name of the work, author, format and technique, in an appropriate file (pdf, jpeg, audio, video or other) and sent to the email dutyofmemory@gmail.com  until 14-June-2020, so that the publications to be part of the event can be organized in a timely manner, which will later be shared, in a virtual event on 17, 18 and 19 June 2020 in the Facebook page of the UNESCO project “Dever of Youth-Memory for Human Rights ”, and on the blog https://deverdememoria.blogspot.com/

symbolically marking the event, thus constituting a #DeverdeMemory
