Sousa Mendes visa recipient Stefan Rozenfeld, a lifelong fan of both the Mets and Mahler; possessed of a beautiful tenor voice; connoisseur of fine wine, good food, dark chocolate, and his favorite Brazilian cocktail - caipirinha; witty punster with a keen mind and memory; Rangers enthusiast; (great dancer) and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend; died on Monday, July 27, 2020, in New York City, from COVID-19 complications. He was 86. Here he is with his daughter Leah Rozenfeld Sills, Board member of the Sousa Mendes Foundation.
"Save a life, save a world!"
It was an honor to have met Stefan Rozenfeld and his family and to be able to appreciate his moving story of flight from Poland to safety in Portugal and beyond, thanks to a visa from Aristides de Sousa Mendes. Many thanks to Leah Rozenfeld Sills for lending the precious family mementos for the Aristides de Sousa Mendes Exhibition in Luxembourg in 2019. In one of the display cases shown in the link below,  you can see the yellow stars worn by little Stefan and his mother in Poland, which they kept carefully hidden as they made their way through Nazi Germany and past the dangers  a little boy could hardly understand.
A life well lived.
