Os órgãos sociais da Fundação Aristides de Sousa Mendes (FASM) tomaram boa nota da afirmação da Câmara Municipal de Carregal do Sal que está disponível para adquirir a Casa do Passal pelo “preço simbólico de um euro”, conforme consta da Acta da reunião da Câmara Municipal de 15 de Abril de 2011 e do respectivo esclarecimento de 5 de Agosto de 2011.
Congratulamo-nos pelo interesse evidente da Câmara Municipal de Carregal do Sal em contribuir para o reconhecimento universal de Aristides de Sousa Mendes, e do seu Acto de Consciência em prol da Humanidade, reafirmando-se como parceira da Fundação Aristides de Sousa Mendes na preservação deste acervo imaterial de inegável importância histórica e cultural, e dos valores da tolerância, da solidariedade, da paz e do altruísmo.
No que respeita à “oferta de venda da Casa do Passal por um euro”, expressa na Acta da reunião da Câmara de Carregal do Sal de 15-Abril-2011 e só recentemente conhecida, confirmamos que:
· O Major Álvaro Sousa Mendes não é Presidente do Conselho de Administração da Fundação Aristides de Sousa Mendes desde a reunião do Conselho Geral de Outubro de 2010.
· A opção de venda da Casa do Passal não faz parte dos actuais planos da Fundação Aristides de Sousa Mendes, pois não foi discutida nem deliberada por nenhum dos órgãos sociais competentes para alienar património e, para dessa forma, alterar o objecto estatutário da Fundação.
Considerando a importância e a dimensão do projecto da Casa do Passal, a Fundação Aristides de Sousa Mendes agradece a oferta de parceria do Município de Carregal do Sal, que esperamos venha a ser formalizada num protocolo e acordo por forma a estabelecer um base de colaboração eficaz e transparente, em torno dos objectivos que partilhamos, especialmente a criação, em Cabanas de Viriato, de um Sitio da Consciência e Museu dedicado à memória de Aristides de Sousa Mendes e à divulgação do seu Acto de Consciência.
Estamos certos que com a colaboração e trabalho de todas as Partes Interessadas será possível criar um Sítio da Consciência e Museu que dignifique o grande Herói que foi Aristides de Sousa Mendes e que inspire os visitantes a passar da memória à acção, em prol da tolerância, da solidariedade e da paz.

The governing bodies of Aristides de Sousa Mendes Foundation (FASM) took note of the declaration of the Municipal Council of Carregal do Sal that it is willing to purchase Casa do Passal for the "symbolic price of one euro", as stated in the Minutes of the meeting of the Municipal Council of 15-April-2011 and the clarification of 5-August-2011.
We welcome the clear interest of the Municipal Council of Carregal do Sal in contributing to the universal recognition of Aristides de Sousa Mendes, and of his Act of Conscience in favor of Humanity, and the reassertion of the role of the Municipality as a partner of the Fundação Aristides de Sousa Mendes in the preservation of the intangible legacy of undeniable historical and cultural importance, and the promotion of the values of tolerance, solidarity, peace and altruism.
With regard to the "offer to sell the house for a Passal euro" received by the Municipality, as indicated in the Minutes of the meeting of the Municipal Council of Carregal do Sal of 15-April-2011 and only recently known, we confirm that:
• Major Alvaro de Sousa Mendes ceased to be the President of the Administrative Council of Fundação Aristides de Sousa Mendes since the meeting of the General Council of the Foundation of October 2010.
• The option to sell the house Passal is not part of current plans of the Fundação Aristides de Sousa Mendes, and such possibility was not discussed nor decided by any of the bodies competent to dispose of assets, and to thereby change the stated objectives of the Foundation.
Considering the importance and dimension of the Passal Project, the Fundação Aristides de Sousa Mendes welcomes the offer of partnership of the Municipal Council of Carregal do Sal, which we hope will be formalized in a “protocol” and agreement in order to establish a basis for effective and transparent collaboration towards shared goals, especially the creation, in Cabanas de Viriato, of a Site of Conscience and museum dedicated to the memory of Aristides de Sousa Mendes and to the dissemination of his historic Act of Conscience.
We are confident that with the cooperation and work of all Stakeholders, it will be possible to create a Site of Conscience and Museum which will dignify the great hero Aristides de Sousa Mendes and which will inspire visitors to move “from memory to action” and towards tolerance, solidarity and peace.
